Carol has been riding since 1995. Growing up, Carol always knew she would ride a motorcycle one day.
As a competitive kid, you could always find her on her bicycle, imagining it was a motorcycle, trying to race all the boys in her neighborhood.
As an adult, her first bike purchase was a 1995 Yamaha Virago. She lived in a city at the time that didn’t provide motorcycle courses and finding people to ride with then was even harder!
When she moved to Vancouver in 2000 it was a slow steady pace back into the motorcycling community.
Carol decided one day to check out a safety course at a motorcycle school (as any good rider knows that the learning never stops).
Even though she considered herself a good rider, going to a school instilled good safe riding practices and that there were valuable things to learn from professionals and not just from your riding buddies or self teaching.
Carol’s career prior to becoming an instructor, provided her a rich background in management and customer service.
Her work experience taught her a lot throughout the years about communication, educating people, and understanding how different people learn.
A few years ago, after a series of life events, Carol decided to follow her heart and her passion and literally quit her day job to become a full time motorcycle instructor.
She eventually saw the need for a female instructor for female students for two main reasons:
1. The intimidation factor. Being out of your comfort zone is not easy and sometimes being around other women helps! But then also, some women just wanna hang with other women!
2. “A lot of women learn differently than men. As women we need to understand why we do things and not just to do things for the sake of doing them. The devil is in the details! It’s similar to the difference between how women and men ask for/take street directions”.
Hence, Hella Rider was born!
